Am I bisexual if I have only ever dated one gender?
I have known I was attracted to more than one gender since school, but my dating history is all men because that is who I happened to meet. Online people say I only count if I have "done the field" with everyone. That cannot be right, can it?
That is absolutely not right. Orientation describes who you are attracted to, not your dating résumé.
Nobody asks a straight woman who has only dated one man whether she is "sure" she is straight. You do not have to audition for a label — if it describes your inner experience accurately, it is yours. Plenty of bisexual people end up with one gender for a season, a decade, or a lifetime and are no less bisexual for it.
Your history reflects who you happened to meet, not the edges of your capacity.
Also: labels are tools, not contracts. Take one for a test drive and see if it makes your life feel more honest. If it stops fitting later, you are allowed to update — that is not "lying," that is paying attention to yourself.
