I came out at a party and now I regret it. Can I take it back?
I had two drinks and told a room of people I am gay. The next morning I panicked — not because it is not true, but because I wanted to choose the moment. Now it is all over group chats. Is there a way to un-say this, or do I just own it?
You cannot un-say it, but you can set the terms. Send one calm message to the group chat: it is true, you would appreciate people not spreading it further, and you will talk about it when you are ready. People respond to a clear instruction. The moment stops feeling stolen when you decide what happens next.
Regret about the timing is not regret about the truth — hold on to that distinction. In my experience the party crowd forgets the drama within a week, while you keep replaying it for months. The gap between how loud it feels to you and how little others dwell on it is bigger than you think.
