Should I mention being gay in my job interview?

asked by Devon · 9/28/2026 · 160 views · 2 answers

I have a final round next week. My old workplace was fine with it, but I do not know this company. Including it in "anything else?" feels risky; hiding it feels exhausting. What do people actually do?

You never owe it in an interview — assess them first. A company's reaction to your very first casual mention tells you everything, and that first mention can happen after you have the offer and a probation period to observe. Exhaustion is a reason to disclose, but risk is a reason to wait; you are allowed to sequence it.

I check their values page and recent pride posts first. Signals from them should come before disclosure from you — if they wave the flag, mentioning it costs nothing; if there is silence, you have just learned something useful about the place.
